Who should apply? Undergraduate students with a strong interest in civil rights and civil liberties are encouraged to apply.  We currently offer internships for undergraduates in our policy, legal, and organizing departments. 

What type of commitment is required?  A minimum of 2-3 days per week at 12-15 hours/week.  Internship hours are flexible as we will work around your academic schedule. Unpaid part-time and unpaid full-time opportunities available.  Academic credit available. 

All internships are hands-on and provide practical skills for future work in public policy, legal, or non-profit advocacy. 

Responsibilities may include: 

  • Initiate and close-out requests for advocacy assistance using our in-house CRM 
  • Screen civil liberties complaints (phone calls, letters, and electronic complaints) from Missourians 
  • Provide information, referrals, and suggestions; identify community resources. 
  • Analyze written complaints 
  • Review applicable regulations and statutes. 
  • Draft responsive letters. 
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
