Every year the ACLU of Missouri heads to Jefferson City to fight for civil liberties. This is our annual report of some of the priority bills we supported, fought against, and what we plan to focus on in the future. The 2021 legislative session was particularly challenging due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The Legislature acted in the dark, while the public could not lobby on behalf of themselves safely.
The ACLU of Missouri tracked 729 pieces of legislation, ranging from police reform to attacks on the First Amendment, voting rights, trans youth, and reproductive freedom. Our policy team testified over 100 times in defense of civil liberties.
