Every year the ACLU of Missouri heads to Jefferson City to fight for civil liberties. This is our annual report of every bill we supported, fought against, and what we plan to focus on in the future. The 2020 legislative was particularly challenging due to the global Covid-19 pandemic. The Legislature acted in the dark, while the public could not lobby on behalf of themselves. We had some wins and we had some losses. There was a record number of 24 Anti-LGBTQ+ bills and not one passed! Unfortunately, the legislature passed a draconian omnibus crime bill SB 600, which will increase our carceral population and cost the state millions.
