Recently, many parents and members of the public have had questions about the sexual education curriculum in public schools across the St. Louis region created by Best Choice, which is part of the pregnancy center, Thrive.
To ensure transparency, the ACLU regularly makes “Sunshine Law” requests of governmental entities. The ACLU made a public records request and received these documents in March.
We do not know if these materials are currently part of the curriculum in schools using Best Choice for sexual education.
The ACLU protects the constitutional right to privacy, and supports comprehensive sexual education that gives teens information to make safe and healthy decisions about sex. Studies show that sex education providing accurate, age-appropriate information that stresses the importance of waiting to have sex and provides complete information about using contraception reduces pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
