ACLU of Missouri’s Statement Ahead of the Preliminary Injunction Hearing against SB 49
The ACLU of Missouri issued the following statement ahead of the evidentiary hearing for our request for a preliminary injunction against portions of SB 49.
“Gender-affirming care is safe and it saves lives. Yet, even after the Attorney General’s debacle of an attempt to abuse his appointed authority by manipulating consumer protection laws to ban care for all transgender Missourians, Jefferson City politicians continued their attacks but this time on our most vulnerable communities.
“This law will harm transgender Missourians, their families, and their medical providers while adding inequities to a healthcare system already ripe with discriminatory laws and practices.
“Transgender Missourians are taking a stand against an overbearing state legislature and Governor who would strip patients, parents, and medical providers of their rights and require decisions related to medical treatment that should be based on consent informed by medical professionals be dictated by the uninformed opinions of politicians in Jefferson City.”
